allopurinol to slow the progression of CKD CKD-FIX: Effects of Allopurinol on the Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease.
Allopurinol use appeared to confer a renoprotective effect among those with pre-existing CKD 3-4 and gout, suggesting that allopurinol does not contribute to
Interpretation of serum uric acid; Risks for allopurinol hypersensitivity syndrome (AHS); Use of allopurinol in CKD; Timing of allopurinol
Allopurinol should be started at lower doses in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to avoid adverse effects. We examined the risk of severe cutaneous reactions in older adults with CKD who were newly prescribed allopurinol at varied doses.
Hyperuricemia is a risk factor for the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). We compared febuxostat versus allopurinol in the progression of CKD and hyperuricemia in 101 patients with Stage 3 4 CKD treated with febuxostat or allopurinol for at least 6 months for hyperuricemia ( 7 mg/dL) between January 2024 and December 2024.

There is limited evidence that allopurinol reduces CKD progression or cardiovascular events. It appears that AEs and in particular serious adverse events attributable to allopurinol are rare. However, the exact incidence of AEs in patients with CKD is unknown. Direct evidence for the impact of allopurinol on quality of life is lacking.

The disconnect is that most members of this population will live less than five years, but only about one in 10 patients surveyed seemed to be aware of this
It doesn't matter how young and fit she is, there is a long list of people needing transplants and not enough donations. Doc had advised her that she was UNLIKELY to get one. She was already in the end stages of CKD.
They wouldn't be siblings they'd be first cousins.
Both of the above were explained in the story. Thanks for your comments but you missed a lot. Skimming, rather than reading?
