Canine albumin refers to the albumin protein found in the blood of dogs. Albumin is a globular protein produced primarily by the liver and
Treating significant hypoalbuminemia (albumin 2.0 mg/dL) in dogs requires careful consideration of each available albumin product. Albumin performs many important functions in the body, including maintaining colloid oncotic pressure and scavenging free radicals. The bulk of total body albumin is distributed within the interstitial space.
Hypoalbuminemia in Dogs. When the levels of albumin in a dog's blood serum are abnormally low, it is said to have hypoalbuminemia. A protein formed in the liver and carried into the blood, albumin is responsible for regulating blood volume by controlling pressure in the blood compartment.

Both plasma proteins albumin and globulin are lost when a dog suffers from protein-losing enteropathy. But albumin is lost at a faster rate than globulin, leading to a wide range of clinical signs. Albumin is produced by the liver, and a decline in albumin levels will often trigger an increased rate of albumin production.
The goal of albumin supplementation in hypoalbuminemic dogs should be to raise plasma albumin to a maintenance level of 2.0-2.5 gm/dL. It is recommended in normovolemic dogs to administer a 5% (isotonic) solution as a constant rate infusion over several hours. A 450 mg/kg dose is required to raise the serum albumin by 0.5 g/dL.
Highly sensitive and accurate measurement of dog albumin for studies on liver function and protein levels.

Aside from upsetting me with potentially making dogs extremely sick though, I liked your story :)
